UT Tyler Rose Scholarship

A UT Tyler Rose Scholar is defined as a student who would be an exemplary representative on behalf of The University of Texas at Tyler. This scholar will represent UT Tyler in the community at events including but not limited to Rose Festival 2024 along with 5 hours per week in the Office of Community Partnerships. Two students will be selected for this position by a committee.

Rose Scholars are also expected to represent the University in both outreach programs and special campus-wide events held throughout the academic year. The Rose Scholar is awarded a scholarship disbursement which will include all tuition, fees, and stipend towards books for the fall 2024 and spring 2025 semesters.

The scholarship covers the following items:
• Tuition (both statutory & designated)
• Mandatory fees
• Course fees
• Student service fees
• Books ($800 allowance per term to be used at the UT Tyler bookstore only)
• Pride meal plan

Participate in all Rose Festival activities including the following:
• Thursday, October 17 at 10am, Texas Rose Festival Ribbon Cutting and Morning Prayer Service
• Friday, October 18 at 11:15am, Texas Rose Festival Men’s Luncheon
• Friday, October 18 at 11:30am, Texas Rose Festival Ladies’ Luncheon
• Friday, October 18 at 2pm, Texas Rose Festival Matinee Coronation
• Friday, October 18 at 7pm, Texas Rose Festival Evening Coronation
• Friday, October 18 at 9:30pm, Texas Rose Festival Past President’s Reception
• Saturday, October 19 at 9am, Texas Rose Festival Parade
• Saturday, October 19 at 1pm, Texas Rose Festival Queen’s Tea
• Work 5 hours per week in the Office of Community Partnerships during the fall 2023 and spring 2024 semesters
• Participate in community events at the discretion of the Office of Community Partnerships

The following are required qualifications for Rose Scholar applicants:
• Successful completion of at least one academic year at UT Tyler (fall & spring semesters)
• Currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at UT Tyler in good standing and will remain an undergraduate for the application year
• Minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA each semester at UT Tyler
• Submission of the Rose Scholar Application Packet online, including the Rose Scholar Recommendation Form, no later than April 1
• Available for an in-person interview with the selection committee in mid-late April (specific dates will be scheduled with individual students if they are selected for the final interview round).
• Must exhibit strong interpersonal skills, including conversational skills and public speaking skills
• Must exhibit leadership skills and/or previous leadership experience
